Study Zero Energy Home
Zero energy home
Research: Barcelona apartment building: 2008-2009
Clients: Basf, Acciona, Evonik
This study is an investigation to reduce 0 the energy consumption of a building. The study involved an alternative design for the existing design for a residential building at this location.
The measures introduced include a combination of systems:
-Ground heat storage and heat-pump – Hollow floors with cooling supplied by heat pump
-Natural ventilation: the air draft for the cooling / heating is provoked by a solar chimney at the south facade
Further energy is brought by the solar panels at the south facade and water-heating panels on the roof.
Also, the economic investment and energy consumption for this project, with only 8% additional costs (compared to the existing design), energy consumption is reduced to 18% of the original usage, Class A (2, 6).
