Consell de cent

Complete refurbishment of an apartment in Eixample, Barcelona. The client asked us to redesign the apartment divided into two zones: one for personal use and the other for guests or friends. Each part should be fully independent while still reflecting a sense of unity throughout the whole apartment.

For this purpose, we designed the corridor connecting the two parts as a fluid space, with an uninterrupted wooden floor running continuously through the entire apartment (except for the bathroom and kitchen), combined with ‘floating’ dividing doors without any frame, creating continuity of space while still allowing a clear separation of each unit.

By removing the false ceilings, we restored the original wooden beams and ceramic vaults, using this heritage to give a unique combination of old and new to the different spaces.

By restoring the old balcony and its large doors, the interior spaces enjoy much more daylight. The effect of the narrow-angle lighting spots makes the journey through the apartment feel like a walk through a forest with clearings, giving different atmospheres depending on the function of each space.

The new materials used include steel for the beams, steel and opaque white glass for the doors, wood for the kitchen, and marble tiles in the bathrooms — all noble materials mixed with a neutral white wall and ceiling scheme, creating a balanced interior that reinforces the modern yet classical identity of the space and fits its owner like a second skin.
